Free Refits and the High Seas
VERSION 0.93 · 22 AUGUST 2026
Refit costs are gone — every vehicle in the game,
vanilla included, refits for free. The canal fleet learns some
manners at sea, three new sea ships join the specialist rosters, and the
record books now name the player behind every town and industry.
GRF update v93 is live on BaNaNaS. Your client picks
it up automatically when you join — each world adopts at its own
reset, as always.
Every refit is free
- Refitting costs nothing, anywhere. Cargostrife
vehicles always refit free; the vanilla fleet now matches — every
wagon, truck, ship and aircraft in the game.
- Auto-refit is unlocked on vanilla stock. Free refits
are the engine's own switch for it, so vanilla vehicles now take
auto-refit orders exactly like ours.
- Vanilla wagon purchase prices are unchanged (to within half a
percent) — only the refit charge died.
Why: refit costs were friction that punished flexible networks
and never created an interesting decision.
The canal fleet knows its place
- Canal boats now hold HALF their speed at sea, up from a
quarter — a Coal Barge crossing open water at 8 km/h was a war
crime. They are still clearly canal craft: every true sea hull outruns
them on the ocean.
- The talent board says so before you buy. Canal vessels'
tooltips now read "39 km/h on canals (HALF at sea)" — and the
whole canal fleet gained board tooltips it never had.
- "Barge" now means canal, full stop. Three sea ships
wrongly wore the name and were renamed: Battery, Grain and Timber
Barges are now Freighters. If it says Barge, it belongs on a
canal; Freighters, Tankers, Clippers, Cutters and Packets own the
sea.
- In game, every ship's buy window has always shown both
figures — "Speed on canal" and "Speed on ocean". Now the names
and the board agree with it.
Three new sea ships
- Timber Freighter sails the tropics now — lumber
by sea on every climate that grows it.
- Fizzy Reefer (toyland) joins the refrigerated line,
matching the Fizzy Van and its tram.
- Rock Candy Cutter (toyland) joins the vault line
— rock candy is a valuable, and now it ships like one.
- All three arrive through the sea talent nodes you already
own. Every cargo a canal barge can carry now has a full-speed sea
specialist on every climate where it exists.
Records name their owners
- A town nobody built sets no record. The biggest-town
record requires a stakeholder — no stakes in the town, no record,
no announcement. Noise deleted.
- NEW: per-industry output records. Every industry type
on every world keeps a record for the largest monthly output of a
single industry — multi-cargo industries like farms count their
combined output. Same law: somebody must hold stakes in it, and the
holder gets the record and the XP.
- Fanfares name the holder and their stakes:
"Gunningpool: 24,223 - biggest town grown - held by mugsy (5,538
stakes) - METROPOLIS MAKER!"
Compare your classes
- Every player profile on the site now shows all eight
classes — level, XP, your rank among everyone who has played
that class, the class average, and the class leader to beat.
- The leaderboard carries a CLASS LEADERS strip: the
best career in each of the eight classes, at a glance.
