PRIVACY POLICY
Cargostrife is a hobby project run by one person. This page says
exactly what the servers and this site keep about you, and what they do not.
01WHAT THE SERVERS SEE WHILE YOU PLAY
- The name you join with, the company you run, and everything you build, haul
and earn. That is the game.
- Chat you type in game.
- The IP address your client connects from, in the game server's own log,
exactly as any multiplayer server does. It is never extracted from those logs,
never published, never shown to other players and never attached to your career.
System logs roll over on disk by themselves - about a week's worth exists at any
time.
02WHAT IS PUBLIC, DELIBERATELY
Careers, XP, levels, achievements, records, rankings and session recaps are
published on this site under your player name. That is what a leaderboard is - if
you would rather not appear on one, this is the part to know about before playing.
- In-game chat is relayed to the Cargostrife Discord, and messages from
Discord come back into the game. Assume anything typed in either place is read in
both.
- Match results, records and rankings are posted to Discord automatically.
03WHAT IS KEPT PRIVATE
- Your Discord ID, if you link your account, and your Steam ID if you
sign in with Steam. Both are stored on the server and neither is ever served: the
public copy of the career book is stripped of them before it is published.
- Device keys. OpenTTD gives each installation its own public key. When you
bind a machine we store that key, so a returning player can be told apart from
somebody typing your name. Never published.
- Moderator notes and player reports. Staff only.
04WHAT WE DO NOT DO
- No ads, no analytics, no tracking pixels, no third-party scripts. Not on
any page.
- The only thing this site loads from anywhere else is the trailer on the front
page, a click-to-load embed on youtube-nocookie.com. Nothing reaches YouTube unless
you press play.
- Nothing is sold, rented or shared with anybody.
- We never ask for your email address, real name, age or location.
05COOKIES
One, and only if you sign in on the Talents page with
Discord or Steam: a session cookie that remembers you are signed in. It is HttpOnly
and Secure, and it expires after thirty days. There are no others, and browsing the
site without signing in sets nothing at all.
06WHERE IT LIVES
One rented server in Hillsboro, Oregon, USA, which runs the game worlds and this
site, plus a second in the same place for the TV stream. Backups are taken nightly
and fourteen are kept.
07DELETING YOUR DATA
Ask on Discord and your career, records and any linked
Discord or Steam ID are deleted. Two honest caveats: chat already relayed to Discord
stays in Discord's own history like any other message, and results already posted to
the Discord channels stay there too.
